BBC lose The Open To Sky !
Sky Sports pay £10m a year to broadcast golf’s crown jewel

Sky Sports will pay more than £10million a year to snatch exclusive live rights for Open Championship golf from the BBC.

The contract will be announced by the sport’s ruling body, the R&A, early next week and will end the BBC’s 59-year ownership of the rights after the next tournament at St Andrews in July. The BBC are likely to keep a highlights deal but that is a consolation prize.

Is nothing sacred ?

BBC Sport coverage has been in huge decline in recent years.

It was this or MOTD for them. They needed to keep the crown jewels so to speak, although this is another programme which needs an overhaul.

I hate adverts and the BBC coverage was obviously uninterrupted.

Dammit. No more Ken Brown.

He's great.

It's very sad that the BBC can't afford to keep the classic sporting events these days, but as said, Sky have more money to spend on it and technology to do it more justice.

What will they lose next? The National? Wimbledon? Olympics? World Cup?

I'm sure the other things on that reserved list will be chipped away at over time.
In terms of quality and breadth of coverage you can't argue with Sky's work

They are all ring fenced and guaranteed to stay on free to air channels aren't they?

At present they are, but I'd only count on the Olympics and the World Cup being protected in the future- if anything is.

All golf on all channels is generally flawed anyway.

Basically I just want to watch people playing shots and not listen to a few old cunts in a room talking about it, as most viewers have played the game enough to know how a course is going to roll, or who's arse will fall out first etc.

Plus they only ever focus on certain people and so you don't even get to see 75% of the players regardless of how they're doing.

The sooner Tiger retires the better as well, as they show every single shot he plays even when he's 15 over. Cunts a no personality has been, so move on from him.

At least they've now created more space and money to make another series of Miranda.
